THE international student community at Surrey University in the UK recently got a glimpse of Bruneian culture during the university's International Festival.

Bruneian students studying at the university, who are also known as BruSurrey, showcased a number of the sultanate's heritage during the iExhibition and iGala events of the festival.

This included being dressed in traditional attire made of Kain Jongsarat and offering local refreshments such as Kueh Sapit, Kueh Jala, Kueh Cincin and Kek Batik as well as the ever popular Air Kausar drink to taste at the Brunei booth at Rubix, Student's Union of the university.

During the exhibition, the students had also set up a consultation table to answer any questions that their international counterparts have of the nation. In addition, brochures on Brunei were distributed.

The rich history and legends of the Sultanate was also shared through the performances at the iGala.

Held at the university's hall, the proud BruSurrey group took to the stage and performed a play titled Dongeng Lagenda. This gave the university students a glimpse of early Brunei from the time of Sultan Mohamad otherwise known as Sultan Awang Alak Betatar to stories of Sultan Sharif Ali, Sultan Bolkiah and the legend associated with him, Puteri Lela Menchanai.
