The University of Surrey's Bruneian Society (BruSurrey) held its first eat and get together ceremony recently.
Twenty six Bruneians attended the thanksgiving lunch at a renowned restaurant in the heart of the small town of Guildford, Surrey.
Members of the society met each other and strengthened ties during the social event.
More events and activities will be organised to bring together the University of Surrey Bruneian students and to form long-lasting relationships.
During the lunch, hosted by the President of BruSurrey Society, Awg Abd Muiz bin Hj Hasbi, he congratulated everyone on the establishment of the society and expressed his appreciation to the support to make the first social gathering a success.
He said various activities and events have been planned and will be held throughout the year.
A doa selamat was read by Muhammad Saifullah bin Haji Chuchu, appointed religious representative of the society. Members walked around the town and enjoyed the scenery around the Castle of Guildford.
The society has gained ratification from the University of Surrey as an official society in November 2010.It is building up its structure as a Bruneian representation in Guildford.
The society aims to unite previous, current and future Bruneian students from University of Surrey, and foster a good relationship in supporting each other in social issues, student welfare, academic studies or religious understanding.
Members will be supporting and be actively involved with any festival and national celebration held by the Bruneian Society Union through Brunei High Commission and events held by the University of Surrey.
The society will promote the Bruneian culture, customs and tradition and demonstrate multicultural value of Bruneian people internationally.
With its excellent academic reputation and fantastic student life, University of Surrey has become one of the top universities of choices for those Bruneian students whom like to further their studies abroad.
There are currently over 30 Bruneian students studying at Surrey in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees including computing, chemical engineering, civil engineering, human resources management, business management, microbial sciences, nutrition and food science, politics and nursing.
